Growing confidence for trans youth.

Mission Statement

The Transgender Mentorship program connects transgender and non binary people of varying transition experiences to empower them to safely live as themselves in order to better their quality of life.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Transgender Mentorship program’s commitment to diversity is to embrace everyone. People are at their best when they are comfortable and feel safe to grow. While we have more work to do towards reaching our diversity and inclusion goals, we’re fostering an open environment with equal conversations to move the program forward.

Vision

The Transgender Mentorship program envisions a network in which transgender and non-binary individuals can thrive by connecting people within the community. We work to show what social and medical opportunities are available for these communities. By sharing experiences the Transgender Mentorship program sees these members growing stronger and more self-sufficient by providing a safety net for those needing social support.

History

Around the time the anti transgender legislation started showing up in the United States, Ari saw a need in the community. We need to connect those of us who desperately want to help protect other trans people, and those of us who really need some guidance and support. The mentorship program went from an idea to a non profit with funding in a short period of time. Now we can fulfill our mission and help make a difference in the lives of local trans people.

Being transgender in todays world can be extremely complicated. There are polarizing views, barriers to changes, and even laws being put into place that stop any kind of physical transition at all. All of these messages are being absorbed by youth, making it that much harder to find their true identity.

The mentorship program will help provide some clarity and hope for those questioning their gender identity or who are early in their transition. Our mentors are all transgender and/or non binary, and will be paired with people who identify similarly. This will help the mentee see that life can be better in the future, and help show them the options they have available to them.

More importantly, we are providing comfort and support for people who really need it. It’s reassuring to have someone with a similar lived experience to gain support from, and that is our goal.
